Hey, Civil Servants!
Are you feeling the burnout? You’re not alone. A recent study cited by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) revealed that Filipino workers report the second-highest stress levels in Southeast Asia
But here’s some fantastic news to brighten your feed (and your future): The CSC has officially approved the Wellness Leave Policy!
If you’re working in the government, this is a huge win for your mental and physical health. Let’s break down CSC Resolution No. 2501292 and see how you can benefit from this game-changing perk.
What is the Wellness Leave?
Think of it as a "reset button." The Wellness Leave allows qualified government officials and employees to take time off specifically for their well-being. Whether you need a mental health day, time for a medical check-up, or just a breather from the daily grind, this leave is designed for you.
- The Grant: You are entitled to a maximum of 5 days of Wellness Leave per year
. - The Best Part? It is separate and exclusive from your existing 15-day Vacation Leave, 15-day Sick Leave, and 3-day Special Leave
. That means you don't have to sacrifice your vacation credits just to de-stress!
Who is Eligible?
This policy covers almost everyone in the public sector:
- Permanent, Temporary, Substitute, Coterminous, Fixed Term, Contractual, and Casual employees
. - Employees in National Government Agencies, GOCCs (with original charters), LGUs, and State Universities and Colleges
.
Note for COS and Job Orders: Your entitlement depends on the specific provisions of your contract and relevant issuances
How to Use It
Ready to file that leave? Here’s what you need to remember to get that approval:
- Advance Notice: File your application at least 5 days before your intended leave
. Emergency Exception: If something urgent comes up (like a sudden anxiety attack or health issue), you can file it immediately upon your return . - Duration: You can take it for a max of 3 consecutive days at a time, or spread it out as single days throughout the year
. - Purpose: You can use it for mental health care, physical wellness activities, or simply a general break from work
. - Privacy Matters: If you are taking leave for mental health reasons, your details are strictly confidential under the Data Privacy Act
. You deserve a safe space. - Use It or Lose It: This leave is non-cumulative and non-transferable to cash. If you don't use it within the calendar year, it gets forfeited
. So, make sure to plan your wellness days!
This resolution (Promulgated Nov 13, 2025) is a massive step forward. Recognizing that mental health is health is vital for a productive bureaucracy. Don't feel guilty about taking this leave. A well-rested public servant is a better public servant.
Effectivity: This policy takes effect 15 days after publication
