Kingston Technology Reveals Next-Gen DDR4

Kingston Technology, one of the most reliable storage manufacturers, showcased the next generation of DDR SDRAM, so-called DDR4 SDRAM.

During CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2014, the company introduced DDR4 technology to have faster speed yet requires only minimal power consumption compared to DDR3 SDRAM.

What are benefits with DDR4 Memory?

DDR4 SDRAM (Double Data Rate TYPE FOUR synchronous dynamic random access memory) is a modern type of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) with improvements from its former version DDR3. Its a DRAM interface specification of actual arrays that store data.

DDR4 is set to mainstream in late 2014.

PROS:
  • Speed/bandwidth
  • Densities
  • Connectors/Form Factors
  • Power consumption
CONS:
  • Not backward compatible with existing systems
