Globe Telecom Shares Disaster Risk Reduction: The Manila Social Good Summit

Amidst with the calamities experienced throughout the country, Globe Telecom talked about disaster risk reduction and management program in The Manila Social Good Summit in which it was being live-streamed both Rappler and PlusSocialGood.org.

The said summit was being presented by Fernando Esguerra, OIC, Globe Corporate on Social Responsibility to the participants of The Manila Good Summit which spearheaded by social news network Rappler.com.

Fernando Esguerra, OIC, Globe Corporate Social Responsibility said:
"Globe continuously works on ways to limit the impact of any disruption in its operations. Thus, it has a business continuity management policy in place which prioritizes the safety of the people and ensures the delivery of products and services even during disaster."
This event provides  concrete next action plans with the response in view of 2012 World Risk Index in which Philippines was identified as the 3rd most vulnerable nation to experience climate change and disasters in the world; Manila, the capital, has been identified also as 2nd most vulnerable city.

Social Good Summit
is held annually to bring movers and shakers to provide action by the use of technology and social media tools.

With the Globe commitment to its stakeholders to provide fast response to any calamities. As a result, Globe Telecom was being the first telecommunication company in the Philippines to have a certification to comply BS2599 International standard for Business Continuity. Now, ISO 22301 will replace BS25999.

The certification serves as a pledge of excellence and commitment towards necessary step actions to maintain business in motion and survives from discruptions.

According to Esguerra:
The best proof of Globe disaster preparedness can be seen in the field as the spirit of volunteerism is firmly inculcated among employees.  Every time calamity strikes, employee volunteers together with CSR partner organization are always there to provide immediate assistance to calamity victims through relief operations, free call and text services, and donations.  
 During Zamboanga City siege, Globe Telecom volunteers to offer LibrengTawag services a day.

Globe CSR is an active partner of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in its relief repacking operations as well as the Weather Philippines Foundation on its automated weather stations (AWS) project.

Globe provides the SIM cards and network service necessary for the AWS to relay pertinent data to the computer for weather monitoring purposes.
