Facebook Announced The Launching of Internet.org

Facebook's CEO and Founder, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Internet.org – together with other technological partners namely: Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm, and Samsung –their mission is to make internet access be available in the NEXT 5 billion users worldwide.

Mark Z. stated that Facebook has already done to give people around the world that power to connect. Butthere is a barrier in developing countries to connect and join the so-called Knowledge Economy. 

Here comes the Internet.org that could bring global partnership to make internect access available especially to those who cannot afford it.

Currently, only 2.7 billion of users have internet access or 1/3 of the world's population. Internet adoption is growing less than 9% each year and it is slow despite of the early technology development.

Internet.org has its goal to have the internet access available on 2/3 of the world's population.

With the collaboration of the founding members of internet.org namely:

  • Facebook
  • Ericsson
  • MediaTek
  • Nokia
  • Opera
  • Qualcomm
  • Samsung

Develop joint future projects, mobilize industry, share ideas, and bring the world to online realm.

In a news press release,  internet will have its key challenges and potentially have a projects that are:

  • Low-costs
  • Efficient Usage of Data
  • Supports New Business Model
Internet.org website has a mission and goals to give 2/3 of the world's population internet access. In the few coming days, it will feature technology leaders and experts.
