Globe Telecom VS 13 Violators

As part of the campaign on pursuing illegal sale and activity with the WIMAX Modems, Globe Telecom files charges among 13 fraudsters involving illegal sale and installation of hacked Globe WIMAX modems and Tattoo Sticks.

This year alone, Globe already filed charged against these violators with cases for violation of Republic Act 8484 or Access Devices Regulations Act of 1998.

  • 12 individuals violated RA 8484
  • 1 charged for theft
The modus operandi with these individuals is to reconfigure and sell one-time cost payment. According to Atty. Froilan Castelo, Head of Globe Corporate and Legal Services Group, those who found guilty of violating RA 8484 and PD 1612 Anti-fencing Law shall have to pay a fine of P24,000.00 and faces imprisonment up to 6 years.

This year the entrapment operation had been conducted and they are few people were arrested:

  • Ian Neil Abenir & Dominic Zabala - February @ SM North Reclamation Area in Cebu City. For P3,500.00, a certain Globe Employee offered a lifetime internet connection
  • Paul Lacaron and Danilo Manataf arrested with follow-up operation.
  • John Paul Capili - April @ Novaliches, QC. arrested for trying to sell clone WIMAX modem for P3,500.00
  • Jose Narcida - April @ Dasmarinas Cavite - arrested for involving illegal hacking and sale of Globe Modem with associate Reynald Denapo
  • Mark Villanueva and Francisco Espino, Visatech employee and Christopher Viado, JV Marketing employee - April - arrested for the illegal sale and installation of WIMAX modems.
  • Pedro Quias - May - Quezon City - engaged in the activation of WIMAX modems. An evident, a flash drive, contains software used to reconfigure/activate MAC addresses.
  • Rodel Acheta, a cellphone technician, arrested and seized him for 17 units of WIMAX modems.
  • Carlo de Ocampo, cellphone technician - May - Meycauayan, Bulacan, sold WIMAX modem for P5,000.00
