Ever heard of Western Digital and SanDisk? Probably YES! If case you are not, Western Digital or NASDAQ (American Stock Exchange short for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations): WDC company and is leader of storage industry and very popular with external hard drives and SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), leader in flash memory solutions. And i'm pretty sure, some of you used SanDisk.

These two companies now partner to create an innovative solid state hybrid drives.
In a Press Release, WD and Sandisk collaborated to create a HYBRID Storage device. Western Digital is best in hard drive technology, while SanDisk is best in flash memory technology. Just imagine how cool and innovative these leaders to create ONE hybrid: Flash Memory and Hard Drive Type?

So how can be?
It was stated that SanDisk will supply SanDisk iSSD™ storage device for WD Black™ solid state hybrid drive (SSHD), probably yet promised world’s thinnest 2.5-inch SSHD solution.
  • SanDisk ISSD has an elegant balance of performance, lower power consumption , costs, reliability, durability, effectiveness, and compact.
In which consumers(like us) would really appreciate this kind of technology. Like me, i want a hard drive or flash memory drive that is fast, high data throughput and fast response.

As Kevin Conley, senior vice president and general manager of client storage solutions at SanDisk said:

“I am delighted for SanDisk to team up with WD on these exciting new hybrid products,” “By combining SanDisk’s unparalleled flash memory expertise and technology with the hard drive know-how of WD, WDBlack SSHDsoffer outstanding hard drive-like capacity, and the slim form factor and the level of performance that you will only get with flash memory solutions.”
“Working with SanDisk, WD realized our vision for products that combine the best of both technologies,” said Matt Rutledge, vice president of client computing at WD. “WD’s SSHDs are a significant achievement in the continuing SSHD/flash storage revolution.”
The low-profile of the solid state hybrid drive is complemented by the extremely small form factor of the SanDisk iSSD, which is built on 19 nanometer (nm) process technology, the world's smallest and most advanced semiconductor manufacturing process. The WD Black 5mm SSHDs are shipping to OEMs. WD is also currently shipping to OEMs ultra-slim, 7mm and 9.5mmSSHDs for portable devices.
