Who is the founder of this Mother's Day celebration?
Anna Jarvis was the First to spearhead Mother's Day to honor her own mother in 1908. She was the first in US to celebrate Mother's day.

Anna Jarvis born in West Virginia on May 1, 1864. It was on May 12, 1907, two years after her mother's death. She held a memorial and thus campaigned to create Mother's Day. In 1920s, she incorporated itself as the Mother's day International Association and even trademarked the phrases "second Sunday of May" to celebrate Mother's day.

Now, the bad thing is, Anna Jarvis who was the founder of Mother's day celebration together with her sister campaigned AGAINST with the Holiday. Ironically, she founded it but later she was against for it.

According to New York Times, Anna said that:
A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world. And candy! You take a box to Mother—and then eat most of it yourself. A pretty sentiment.
—Anna Jarvis.[3][4] source: Wikipedia

Anna and her sister died in poverty. And accordingly, Anna Marie Jarvis never married and had no children at all.

Some beautiful Mother's quotes:

All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his.
Oscar Wilde

Men are what their mothers made them.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mothers are the people who love us for no good reason. And those of us who are mothers know it's the most exquisite love of all.
Maggie Gallagher

Mothers all want their sons to grow up to be president, but they don't want them to become politicians in the process.
John F. Kennedy
"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.
- Howard Johnson

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.
